How it works
The first ten digits are multiplied by the weights 3, 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 and 2. The check digit is 11 minus the remainder of the sum divided by 11, or 0 when that remainder is below 2.
Questions
Does a valid result mean the document exists?
No. The check only confirms that the number has the right shape and that its check digits are consistent. Only the issuing authority can confirm that a document was actually issued and belongs to someone.
